Foreign Affairs Secretary Romulo Calls on MCC CEO Yohannes; Reiterates Philippine Government’s Commitment to the MCC Process

17 December 2009. Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo today formally conveyed to MCC CEO Daniel Yohannes the Philippine Government’s profound appreciation to the MCC Board of Directors for their unanimous decision on the Philippine’s reselection as Compact eligible for FY 2010, a prerequisite to signing a Compact Agreement.

“We will continue to work hard and improve on the various aspects of the MCC program,” Secretary Romulo said during the meeting.

Mr. Yohannes acknowledged that the MCC has a very good relationship with the Philippine Government and that the technical assessment of the Philippine Compact proposal “is going very well.”

MCC Senior Advisor to the CEO and Deputy White House Counsel Cassandra Butts, Acting Vice President for Compact Development Darius Teter and Director for Country Relations Jerry Dutkewych also joined the meeting, together with Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy C. Gaa and other Embassy Officials.

With Compact eligibility, the Philippines’ Compact bid is now on track. END
