14/08/2012: Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia,Jr. Conferred Degree of Knight Commander of Rizal in New York
14 August 2012 - The Order of the Knights of Rizal-New York Chapter conferred on Philippine Ambassador to the United States (US) Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. the degree of Knight Commander of Rizal (KCR) in a special ceremony held at the Astoria World Manor Hotel in Queens, New York on August 05.
The ceremony was witnessed by Consul General and Mrs. Mario L. De Leon, Jr., Mrs. Vicky Cuisia, members of the Knights of Rizal Chapters of New York and New Jersey and members of the Filipino-American Community.
Sir Roger Alama of the Knights of Rizal, had the honor of leading the Knighting Ceremony and administering the oath of membership to the Order to Ambassador Cuisia.
In welcoming the guests to the special event, current Knights of Rizal-New York Chapter Head, Sir Jose L. Ramos, noted that it was high time for Ambassador Cuisia to be welcomed to the circle of the Knights of Rizal as his life serves as a model of how modern-day Filipinos can realize the ideals espoused by our national hero.
Consul General de Leon, himself a member of the Knights of Rizal-New York, stated that Ambassador Cuisia's long and productive years of public service guided by the legacy of Dr. Rizal should inspire different generations of Filipino-Americans to do more for their local communities and also for the Philippines.
Ambassador Cuisia in his keynote message thanked the Knights of Rizal-New York Chapter and representatives from the other chapters for the honor of being conferred the degree of Knight Commander of Rizal. He likewise spoke of how the Filipino-American community across all disciplines, professions, advocacies, and generations should take to heart the qualities prized by Dr. Rizal such as striving for excellence, patriotism, and respect for human rights, among others. He said that by doing so, Rizal's legacy would continue to flourish and inspire Filipinos throughout the world to make a difference.
During the event, the Knights of Rizal-New York Chapter also commemorated the 151st birth anniversary of the national hero. An earlier commemorative event was held by the Knights in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General in New York last June 19. END
