10/08/2012: New ASEAN Ambassadors Call on Ambassador Cuisia

August 10, 2012, Washington, DC – Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. received, in his office, the new Ambassadors of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Republic of Singapore in Washington, DC.
H.E U Than Swe, called on Ambassador Cuisia on August 1. Ambassador Cuisia welcomed Ambassador Than Swe to Washington, DC and congratulated him on the political and economic reforms that the Government of Myanmar has pursued in the past year. Ambassador Cuisia also assured the Ambassador of Myanmar of the support of the Embassy of the Philippines as Myanmar assumes the role of Country Coordinator for the ASEAN-US Relations from 2012- 2015. The Philippines completed its three-year term on June 30, 2012.
On August 2, H.E. Ashok Kumar Mirpuri of the Embassy of Singapore called on Ambassador Cuisia. The two Ambassadors discussed the US strategic pivot to Asia and how this affects the dynamics in the region. They also noted the strong cooperation between the Philippines and Singapore as bilateral partners and within the framework of ASEAN. Both countries are founding members of ASEAN.
In the above meetings, the Ambassadors re-affirmed their commitment to promote ASEAN solidarity and to raise the profile of ASEAN in Washington, DC. -- END
